On October 7, 2025, Timothée Chalamet and director Josh Safdie took the stage at the New York Film Festival to surprise the crowd with the announcement of their new movie Marty Supreme's world premiere that same evening. The film, produced by A24, stars Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a man with a dream of ping pong greatness that no one respects.
Marty Supreme is set in the 1950s and follows Mauser's journey as he goes "to hell and back in pursuit of greatness" in the world of competitive ping pong. While the project's inspiration has not been officially confirmed, sources have long indicated it draws loose inspiration from the story of pro player Marty Reisman.
Joining Chalamet in the star-studded cast are Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'Zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, and Sandra Bernhard. Safdie directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein, with Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24 serving as producers.
