Tim Allen Feared Age Gap With Co-Star

Tim Allen recently revealed his initial reservations about an age gap with his 'Shifting Gears' co-star, Jenna Elfman. The 72-year-old actor expressed concern that he might appear too old for a romantic storyline with the 57-year-old actress, admitting he felt self-conscious about the potential for it to seem "creepy."

While the on-screen romance between their characters has not been problematic, Allen was not keen on the inclusion of age-related jokes, particularly when made by Elfman. He acknowledged that the show's production team, including showrunner Michelle Nader, intentionally developed the romantic element, which Allen had not initially envisioned for the series.

Despite his personal hesitations, Allen praised Elfman's performance and recognized that the romantic subplot has been beneficial for 'Shifting Gears.' He noted that the added romance has broadened the show's appeal, attracting a different audience segment, while he continues to focus on ensuring the car-related content remains exciting.

'Shifting Gears' is slated to return for a third season on ABC in 2027.
