Summary
- TIFF's Platform section now offers a direct path to Oscar contention.
- The competitive section features 12 international films for 2026.
- A five-member jury, led by Pablo Trapero, will award the Platform prize.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced the 12 films selected for its prestigious 2026 Platform section. This competitive program, designed to showcase emerging global filmmakers, now offers a direct route for non-English language films to contend for the Best International Feature Film Oscar. This makes TIFF one of only six international festivals with this qualification.
The 2026 Platform lineup includes a diverse array of world premieres from various countries. The films will all debut at TIFF Lightbox, with "Children Untold" by Miwa Nishikawa opening the program. This section's expansion to 12 films highlights its growing importance in the international film landscape.
Overseen by Director of Programming Robyn Citizen, the 12 films are vying for the Platform Award. This year, the award will be decided by an expanded international jury of five members. The jury president is Argentinian filmmaker Pablo Trapero, alongside Amma Asante, Sylvia Chang, Luc Déry, and Albert Lee. The winning filmmaker will receive a $20,000 CAD prize and be honored on the festival's final day, September 20, 2026.
