Thriller 'Anniversary' Explores Tensions of Changing Ideologies

The upcoming thriller film 'Anniversary' explores the tensions within a fractured family as the country embraces a controversial rising movement known as The Change. Actress Diane Lane, who leads the film, says the subject matter makes it feel like a "horror story" with real-world ideologies, not made-up monsters.

Directed by Jan Komasa, 'Anniversary' follows the sophisticated college professor Ellen (played by Lane) and her wealthy family as their lives unravel when Ellen's former student Liz (Phoebe Dynevor) reappears and starts dating their son (Dylan O'Brien). As Liz becomes part of the Taylor family, the tensions rise and loyalties are tested, with Liz's role in The Change bringing simmering conflicts to the surface.

Lane praised the film's screenplay, written by Lori Rosene-Gambino, as "so powerful" and says it is "addressing issues that touch people's lives" during an "alarming and challenging time of uncertainty" for the nation. The actress adds that the director "knows how to create the tension" and will get as many takes as needed to ensure the cast delivers their best performances.

The film's cast also includes Madeline Brewer, Zoey Deutch, Mckenna Grace and Daryl McCormack. 'Anniversary' is set to premiere in New York City on October 21, 2025, just in time for Halloween, which Lane says is "perfect" as the film is a true "horror story."
