'Thelma & Louise' Musical Premieres in London

The seminal 1991 feminist film 'Thelma & Louise' is making its debut as a musical stage production. This highly anticipated show will have its world premiere at London's Young Vic Theatre in the fall, with performances running from September 3 through October 24. Callie Khouri, the Oscar-winning writer of the original film, is penning the book for the musical.

Music and lyrics for the production are being crafted by Neko Case, a Grammy-nominated vocalist known for her powerful songwriting. The stage adaptation is a co-production spearheaded by the Young Vic and Sonia Friedman Productions. The creative team aims to translate the radical themes of female liberation and friendship from the beloved road movie to the theatrical stage.

This reimagined version promises to be a "wild and emotional ride," according to Khouri. The production will feature acclaimed musical theatre artists Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker in the lead roles. The Young Vic's artistic director, Nadia Fall, noted the enduring relevance of the story, especially in contemporary discussions around women's rights and experiences.

The Young Vic's upcoming season also includes other notable productions such as 'Eurotrash,' 'La Distance,' Debbie Tucker Green's new play 'Dissent,' and August Wilson's 'Gem of the Ocean.'
