The film was shot in Nepal and New Zealand, with actors undergoing significant climbing training.
The production prioritized authenticity, with Phuntsok and Hiddleston performing many of their own stunts, including navigating crevasses and icy terrains. This immersive approach extended to a trek to Everest Base Camp for the lead actors to foster their on-screen chemistry and connection to the mountain's spirit.
Director Peedom highlighted the erasure of Sherpa contributions in mountaineering history, a theme explored in her previous documentaries. 'Tenzing' delves into Norgay's early life in Tibet and his ascent, emphasizing his deep connection to the mountain and the challenges he faced due to ethnicity and class.
The film, produced by See-Saw Films and Apple Studios, also benefits from the involvement of Tenzing Norgay's son, Norbu Tenzing, as an executive producer. 'Tenzing' is set to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, followed by theatrical and Apple TV releases in October 2026.
