Undavalli Caves Host Vibrant Telugu Festival

The 7th-century Undavalli Caves recently served as the venue for the inaugural Andhra Pradesh Telugu Mahotsavam. This vibrant two-day festival celebrated the Telugu language, literature, and cultural traditions, drawing an impressive attendance of over 12,000 visitors. The event successfully brought together writers, poets, folk artists, craftsmen, students, and families, fostering a renewed connection with Telugu through immersive experiences.

The festival commenced with a sunrise recital and featured a diverse program, including literary discussions, poetry sessions, musical concerts, and folk performances like Dappu and Tholu Bommalata. Innovative initiatives, such as encouraging social media influencers to converse solely in Telugu and sessions on AI's role in promoting the language, aimed to connect Telugu's heritage with the digital age.

Beyond performances, visitors actively participated in workshops. A special post box invited people to write letters in Telugu, reviving a fading tradition. Children engaged in pottery workshops, while a Telugu calligraphy stall attracted many, especially youngsters curious about the script. Folk artists also found a platform to share the history of their traditional art forms with a wider audience.

Discussions focused on literature, with women writers participating in 'Aame Mata-Akshara Bata' and poets reciting verses. Veteran broadcaster Munjaluri Krishnakumari engaged children with stories. The festival's success has led to plans for its annual organization, with organizers aiming to expand future events based on lessons learned.
