Teen Hosts Beatles Radio Show Using Text-to-Speech

Aiden Levy, a 15-year-old Gen Alpha member, has become the youngest host in the history of SiriusXM's The Beatles Channel. Through his show, 'We Want to Tell You,' co-hosted with Elizabeth Bonker, Levy is introducing the Beatles to a new audience.

Both Levy and Bonker are nonspeakers with autism who use text-to-speech technology to communicate and host their show. Levy, who uses a letterboard to communicate due to autism and apraxia, expressed amazement at the technological possibilities for nonspeakers in broadcasting.

Levy's father, a music reporter, encouraged him to submit his favorite Beatles songs to a channel program, which led to SiriusXM's invitation. Bonker, founder of the nonprofit Communication 4 All, joined Levy, bringing her advocacy for nonspeakers.

Their show aims to share their love for the Beatles and their mission to combat the silence faced by nonspeakers. They draw inspiration from modern Beatles content like Peter Jackson's documentary 'The Beatles: Get Back' and movies built around their songs, demonstrating the enduring emotional connection to the band across generations.

Producing their show is a laborious process, with Levy's one-letter-at-a-time communication method taking hours for just a few minutes of commentary. However, they are committed to showcasing the unique gifts individuals with disabilities can offer the world, countering the misconception that disability equates to sadness.

The show has resonated deeply, particularly with nonspeakers and their families, offering hope and inspiration. Levy has also fulfilled personal dreams, attending Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr concerts, experiences he describes as the greatest nights of his life.
