Teen Star Lands CBBC Role Despite Rare Condition

Ethan, a 14-year-old footballer from York, has achieved a significant milestone by landing a role in the CBBC series Jamie Johnson FC. Born with congenital melanocytic naevus (CMN), a condition causing extensive birthmarks, Ethan's journey is a testament to his personal drive. His parents, Tom and Abbi, emphasized that his birthmark never limited him, instead highlighting his inherent determination and strength throughout his achievements.

Ethan's casting in the series, which features aspiring players at the fictional Hawx United, occurred while he was part of the York City FC Academy. His audition involved showcasing his football skills in a match against the show's actors. Executive producer Sam Talbot noted that Ethan's role aligns with the show's core mission of ensuring all children see themselves represented on screen and feel a sense of belonging.

Although a non-speaking role, Ethan gained significant screen time, including close-ups, marking his first acting experience. He found the experience enjoyable, despite the challenge of maintaining a serious expression. The representation of individuals with visible skin differences was not Ethan's primary focus, as his passion has always been football. His family expressed immense pride in his accomplishment, noting the positive impact on his confidence.

With filming concluded and the series available on BBC iPlayer, Ethan is returning his full attention to football. He trains with Leeds United scout Callum McKenzie and is set to play in an international tournament in Sweden. His father encouraged seizing such opportunities for personal growth, whether in the public eye or through high-level sports.
