Taye Diggs Taps into Personal Life for Lifetime's 'His, Hers & Ours'

Taye Diggs, 54, is tapping into his own relationship highs and lows for his latest acting role in the Lifetime film "Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours." Diggs, who is divorced and has a 16-year-old son, says he's able to draw on his personal experiences to make his performance more "potent and realistic."

In the film, Diggs plays Darius, a single father who discovers his teenage daughter in bed with her boyfriend. Darius kicks the boyfriend out, but his own mother, Kelly (played by Lesley-Ann Brandt), confronts him about his tough parenting move. Sparks begin to fly between the two parents, and their romance blossoms behind closed doors. However, when they tell their kids about their feelings, their love will be put to the test.

Diggs, who has not fallen for his own son's girlfriend's mother, says he used his own life as a single, divorced dad to inform his portrayal of Darius. The actor admits he is "set" in his ways and "kind of comfortable with being single," but the idea of spending his life with someone else is "not second nature" to him. These personal insights helped Diggs bring authenticity to the complicated love story.

As a "big fan of romantic comedies," Diggs was thrilled to be part of a story that puts a unique spin on the genre. He believes the film's exploration of two parents finding love later in life, while also navigating their kids' relationship, offers a "fun element of surprise" that audiences haven't seen before.
