Grammy-Nominated Producer Tay Keith Dies of Overdose

Grammy-nominated record producer Tay Keith died on June 18 from a drug overdose, according to an autopsy report released recently. The Memphis-born producer, whose legal name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, was found deceased in his apartment. Authorities indicated no foul play was suspected in his passing.

The official cause of death was a combination of mitragynine, 7-hydroxy mitragynine, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, and ketamine toxicity. The manner of death was consequently ruled an accident, stemming from the toxic effects of these substances.

Keith achieved significant fame for his collaborations with global superstars including Beyonce, Cardi B, Drake, and Travis Scott. His contributions earned him two Grammy nominations, one in 2019 for Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode" and another in 2024 for Drake & 21 Savage's "Rich Flex."

Beyond his musical achievements, Keith was dedicated to his education, graduating from Middle Tennessee State University. University leaders remembered him as a devoted alumnus who inspired many, particularly minority students, by proving that success was attainable while staying committed to his academic goals.

His family released a statement honoring him as a "visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force." They emphasized his lasting impact on music and culture, and cherished him as a beloved son, brother, and friend, whose legacy would endure through his creations and the lives he touched.
