Tamil Film Council Sets New Rules for Stars
16 Mar
Summary
- Actors must prioritize films after receiving advance payment.
- Stars committed to films cannot simultaneously work on web series.
- Council aims to boost small-budget films and streamline production.

In a significant consultation held recently in Chennai, the Tamil Film Producers Council introduced new rules to enhance the efficiency of the Tamil film industry. The meeting, led by newly elected president G. K. M. Tamil Kumaran, saw participation from producers, distributors, and exhibitors.
A primary resolution mandates that actors, directors, and top technicians must give precedence to completing a film once an advance payment has been received. This directive aims to prevent scheduling conflicts, which are identified as a major cause of prolonged production times and financial setbacks.
Furthermore, the council has decided that artists and key crew members with existing film commitments are barred from taking up web series projects during that period. Non-compliance with this rule will result in the council's committee determining their future film project involvement.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of supporting small-budget films by allocating more screen time in theaters. The council expressed optimism that these reforms, designed to guide the industry, will usher in positive transformations within the next three years.
