In November 2025, Taiwanese screenwriter Henry Tsai is preparing to direct an adaptation of the acclaimed literary work "Spent Bullets." The film, which has been selected for presentation at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), follows the story of Silicon Valley engineers Wu Yi-Hsiang and Hsiao-Hua as they travel to Las Vegas to mourn their genius classmate Jie-Heng.
During their highway trip, the two friends must confront the intimacy, shame, and desire they once shared, exploring the complex relationship between success, love, and human connection. Tsai, who won the Golden Horse Award for his previous work "Winds of September," was captivated by the plight of being a genius and the subtle, hard-to-define erotic relationships depicted in the source material.
The director emphasizes the emotional core of the film, stating that "Someone will love you for who you are, no matter if you're successful or wealthy. You deserve that love, and you know how to give it as well as to receive it." Produced by Jacqueline W. Liu through Taipei-based Each Other Films, the project is eyeing a May 2026 start for principal photography in the U.S., with Taiwan shoots scheduled to follow in June.
