Taapsee Pannu: Mainstream roles still a struggle

Actress Taapsee Pannu has shared insights into the challenges of securing roles in large-scale commercial films like Dunki. She described the opportunity as a rare gift, earned through years of consistent work in the industry. Pannu noted that films such as Dunki are difficult to obtain for actors not perceived as conventionally mainstream. She explained that her role in the Rajkumar Hirani film came about because the character demanded her specific sensibility, a result of her previous work in content-driven movies. Pannu feels that despite her established career, there is still a struggle to be cast in more glamorous, mainstream roles. She recalled starting her career with commercial films in the South and her Hindi debut with David Dhawan's film. Dunki marked the first collaboration between director Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan, featuring an ensemble cast. Pannu is currently receiving acclaim for her role in Assi, a courtroom drama addressing significant legal and social issues.
