Sydney Sweeney Shuts Down 'Anyone But You' Romance Rumors with Co-Star Glen Powell

In a recent interview, actress Sydney Sweeney, 28, addressed the media frenzy that surrounded her and her 'Anyone But You' co-star Glen Powell, 37, throughout the film's promotional run. Sweeney insists that she and Powell did not actively contribute to the romance rumors that emerged, stating "The press did it to themselves."

The speculation was fueled in part by Powell's split from his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris that year, as well as the on-screen chemistry between Sweeney and Powell. However, Sweeney maintains that "there was no leaning in, per se" and that the tabloids and journalists "just created it and kept going." She adds that she and Powell "genuinely care for each other and have a love and respect for one another."

Despite the persistent rumors, both Sweeney and Powell have suggested they took a more active role in keeping 'Anyone But You' fans invested in a potential off-screen romance. As Powell told The New York Times, "Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That's people wanting what's on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit -- and it worked wonderfully."

Sweeney, who is now dating recording executive Scooter Braun, and Powell have both expressed openness to a sequel to 'Anyone But You' if the right concept and script come along.
