26 Sep
Summary
- Hondo struggles with guilt over losing a young man named Nico.
- The spin-off series aims to evolve the show's DNA.
- A new Jesse character is introduced, not related to Jessica Cortez.
A new era for "S.W.A.T." has begun with the premiere of the Starz spin-off series, "S.W.A.T. Exiles." Shemar Moore reprises his role as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, who is a changed man following a difficult year marked by the loss of a young operative named Nico during a mission.
Hondo carries significant guilt over Nico's death, which profoundly impacts his leadership of his new team. Showrunner Jason Ning explained that the spin-off is a "cousin" to the original series, maintaining its core DNA while evolving through this intervening period of significant events for Hondo.
The series introduces a character named Jesse, described as Nico's cousin. This led to speculation about a connection to Stephanie Sigman's character, Jessica Cortez, from the original show. However, Ning clarified that this Jesse is a new, distinct character. Despite this, Ning humorously suggested making the coincidental name link canon.
