Hondo's Back: S.W.A.T. Exiles Hits Starz This Fall

S.W.A.T. Exiles, the highly anticipated action drama, will premiere on Starz in the U.S. on September 25. The series marks the return of Shemar Moore as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, who is pulled out of retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit.

Sony Pictures Television has secured exclusive first-window U.S. rights for the series with Starz. Beyond domestic distribution, the independent studio has also achieved significant success by selling S.W.A.T. Exiles in every major global region, including Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. The 10-episode series is slated for a day-and-date launch in select international territories.

The series' production was a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Television Studios and SPT's global distribution arm. Following the conclusion of Season 1 production in February, Sony TV actively engaged potential buyers, holding screenings attended by Shemar Moore in Los Angeles, New York, and London.

Executive commentary highlighted the extraordinary response to S.W.A.T. Exiles, attributing its success to the franchise's strength and the commitment of its creative team. The distribution strategy, which included holding off on U.S. sales until the series was completed, proved fortuitous amidst a shifting media landscape, opening opportunities with new network buyers seeking premium content.

Starz expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that S.W.A.T. Exiles aligns with their focus on women and underrepresented audiences. The network anticipates a strong overlap with existing S.W.A.T. viewers and their top-performing originals. This collaboration further strengthens Sony Pictures Television's long-standing relationship with Starz, building on the success of "Outlander."

In S.W.A.T. Exiles, Hondo must guide a squad of young, untested recruits through clashing personalities and generational divides to protect the city. Alongside Moore, the cast includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. Original cast members Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit reprise their roles, with David Lim also returning.
