The role of NASA scientist Mohan Bhargava in the acclaimed film 'Swades' was initially offered to Aamir Khan. Writer Amin Hajee revealed that Aamir Khan was the first actor considered for the lead in director Ashutosh Gowariker's next project after 'Lagaan.'
Aamir Khan's involvement also extended to production, but he eventually stepped away. Hajee explained that Khan had reservations about certain screenplay aspects and, crucially, lacked the time to commit as he prefers to focus on one film at a time. This opened the door for other actors.
Following Aamir Khan's departure, the script was narrated to Hrithik Roshan. Additionally, R. Madhavan impressively auditioned for the role. However, the part ultimately went to Shah Rukh Khan, who had expressed keen interest after attending a 'Lagaan' screening and personally contacted Gowariker.
Released in 2004, 'Swades' has since garnered significant recognition, particularly for Shah Rukh Khan's performance, which is now considered one of his career highlights. The film chronicles a scientist's return to rural India and his efforts to bring about change.
