- Many successful Survivor crew members began as Dream Teamers.

John Kirhoffer, a co-executive producer for Survivor, has revealed the origins of the show's "Dream Team." This group of young adults originally tested challenges to save the main production staff time and effort. Kirhoffer emphasized that the team's purpose quickly evolved beyond just testing, becoming a significant apprenticeship program for individuals interested in television production.
What began as a practical need for "bodies" to test challenges has become a pipeline for talent. Kirhoffer recounted how he would recruit students from film and TV departments, offering $200 a week plus meals. The team, named by a friend, now receives hundreds of applications for about 25 positions each year.
Many individuals who started on the Dream Team have risen through the ranks, some reaching positions like co-executive producer, mirroring Kirhoffer's own career trajectory. He highlighted Brittany Crapper as an example, who is now a co-executive producer, and noted that numerous Dream Team members have met and started families through the show, with over 80 "Survivor babies" born.
Kirhoffer believes the Dream Team's legacy is finding talent in unexpected places and nurturing potential. He advocates for promoting promising individuals, stating, "I don't want anybody being a PA for too many years. Move up, move up, move up." He believes in treating these aspiring professionals well to allow them to lead the way.
