Surprise Pregnancy Rocks Doctors' Relationship on Chicago Med
2 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Asher's pregnancy paternity revealed as Dr. Archer, not ex Dr. Ripley
- Showrunner says Asher-Archer friendship had "fireworks" and attraction
- Crunch Berries cereal clue confirmed Archer as the father

As of October 2nd, 2025, the season 11 premiere of the medical drama Chicago Med has revealed the paternity of Dr. Hannah Asher's baby. Contrary to the season 10 cliffhanger, the father is not Asher's ex Dr. Mitch Ripley, but rather her friend and colleague Dr. Dean Archer.
According to Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald, this twist was intentional, as the Asher-Archer relationship had the "most legs moving forward" from a dramatic standpoint. MacDonald noted that while their friendship started out rocky, there was an underlying attraction between the two characters that the actors may not have even been aware of.
The showrunner also revealed that the subtle Crunch Berries cereal clue in the previous season was meant to confirm Archer as the father, as it was a nod to the character's love of the sugary cereal. With the paternity now established, MacDonald says "there's nothing more intimate than having a child together, so that's really going to shake up this idea that they can only be friends."
As for whether viewers will get a flashback of the Asher-Archer hookup, MacDonald says that will remain a mystery for now, as he believes it plays better to leave it unresolved for the time being. Fans of the show will have to stay tuned to see how this unexpected pregnancy impacts the dynamic between the two doctors.
