Summary
- Karuppu achieved ₹120 crore worldwide gross in its opening weekend.
- The film faced last-minute show cancellations and mixed critical reviews.
- Suriya's performance marks a significant box office comeback after years.

Suriya and Trisha's recent film, Karuppu, has achieved a significant box office milestone, grossing ₹120 crore globally within its opening weekend. The fantasy action drama, directed by RJ Balaji, opened to strong audience turnout across various markets, despite encountering last-minute show cancellations and receiving mixed reviews from critics.
The film garnered ₹68 crore in India net collections over its first three days, with an additional ₹42 crore from overseas markets contributing to the impressive worldwide gross of ₹120.75 crore. This performance allowed Karuppu to surpass the ₹100-crore mark in just three days since its release.
Opening on Friday with ₹15.50 crore net in India, the film saw collections rise to ₹24.15 crore on Saturday and peaked on Sunday with ₹28.35 crore net. Suriya portrays Saravanan, a lawyer who transforms into the deity Karuppusamy, in a story involving a father and daughter facing a corrupt legal system.
Critics noted that while the film's first half was cleverly written, the narrative became convenient and rule-bending. Nevertheless, Karuppu's successful opening weekend highlights Suriya's triumphant return to box office prominence after a decade-long period of less successful theatrical ventures.
