Kapoor's Debt-Ridden Journey: From Peshawar to Bollywood Stardom

Surinder Kapoor's life began in Peshawar but was dramatically reshaped by the 1947 partition, leading him to Mumbai in 1950. Initially facing significant hardship and debt, he secured a position as an assistant director on the iconic film Mughal-E-Azam through his cousin Prithviraj Kapoor. Despite early production failures like Jab Se Tumhe Dekha, Surinder Kapoor persevered in the film industry.

His family experienced profound financial crisis, particularly in the mid-1970s when mounting debts reached Rs 36 lakh. Surinder Kapoor's son, Boney Kapoor, who initially resisted a career in filmmaking, ultimately saved the family's production house. Boney's debut film, Hum Paanch, achieved success and cleared the substantial debt, allowing his brother Anil Kapoor to later rise as a prominent actor.
