Veteran singers Suresh Wadkar and Padmini Kolhapure illuminated the Khasdar Jyestha Nagrik Sanskrutik Mahotsav in Nagpur on Saturday evening. Performing at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Hall, they presented a program of devotional and evergreen melodies to an appreciative audience of senior citizens. The event was marked by enthusiastic applause and spontaneous dancing from attendees.
Wadkar, reminiscing about his four-decade connection to Nagpur and Amravati, spoke about the audience's attentive listening. He also recalled Kolhapure's early career, noting their shared recording experiences. Kolhapure herself delivered a soulful performance, adding to the evening's festivities. The festival, organized by the Senior Citizen Foundation, aims to celebrate and honor the elderly.
A special tribute was paid to Raj Kapoor, whom Wadkar identified as the one true 'Showman' of Hindi cinema. Wadkar praised Kapoor's disciplined and unwavering dedication to his craft. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari sent a goodwill message, emphasizing the festival's purpose of enhancing the joy and dignity of senior citizens. The inaugural ceremony also included felicitations and introductory addresses, with the Mahotsav continuing with more cultural programs.
