In the lead-up to the upcoming International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the supernatural body-horror film 'Bloody Tennis' has been acquired for international sales by The Playmaker. The English-language debut from Greek-German filmmaker Nikias Chryssos is set to premiere on the world stage.
Produced by Augenschein, 'Bloody Tennis' follows the story of Sophie, a young woman admitted to an elite tennis academy hidden deep in the south of Europe. However, she must contend not only with the fierce brutality of her teammates, but also the school's increasingly sinister undercurrents, where competitive sports are taken to their extreme and only the hungriest survive.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including Sandra Guldberg Kampp, Golden Globe nominee Helena Zengel, Lucie Zhang, Lily Taieb, Elina Löwensohn, and Zlatko Burić. With an original score by composer Jim Williams, known for his work on films like 'Titane,' 'Raw,' and 'Possessor,' 'Bloody Tennis' promises to deliver a wild, bloody, and highly entertaining horror experience.
Moritz Hemminger, head of sales and acquisitions at The Playmaker, expressed his delight in working with the prestigious Augenschein team, stating that Nikias Chryssos' "original style as a director" is sure to captivate international distributors. Producer Jonas Katzenstein echoed this sentiment, praising Chryssos' "unmistakable visual style" and his ability to consistently challenge and reward audiences with "bold, disturbing visions."
