'Superman' Star Overcomes Audition Challenges, Secures Upcoming DC Movie Role

In a recent interview, actress María Gabriela de Faría, who portrayed the character 'The Engineer' in the 2025 film 'Superman', opened up about her audition experiences for DC movies. De Faría shared that she had come close to working with director James Gunn on his previous DC project, 'The Suicide Squad', but a language barrier issue prevented that from happening.
The actress explained that she was so "starstruck" by Gunn during her 'The Suicide Squad' audition that she "bombed it", fearing her limited English skills at the time may have sabotaged her chances. Despite this setback, de Faría's audition for the role of 'The Engineer' in 'Superman' proved to be a success.
Earlier, de Faría had been hit hard by losing an audition for the Paramount+ series 'Landman', leaving her "depressed". However, her husband encouraged her to try out for 'The Engineer' role, and she ultimately landed the part, sharing screen time with actors like David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.
As of October 2025, de Faría's character 'The Engineer' had been knocked unconscious, and her whereabouts after the events of 'Superman' were not addressed. Fortunately for fans, the actress will reprise the role in the upcoming DC movie 'Man of Tomorrow', set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
