Super Kings Halt Rajinikanth Song Play

Summary
- CSK will stop using Rajini's movie songs without a license.
- Sun Pictures sought an injunction against CSK's song usage.
- The Madras High Court adjourned the hearing to March 16.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has informed the Madras High Court that it will refrain from using songs and music from movies featuring Rajinikanth, such as Jailer and Coolie, without obtaining the necessary licenses from copyright holder Sun Pictures. This undertaking was made on Friday in response to a lawsuit filed by Sun TV Network.
Sun TV Network's legal team contended that CSK's promotional activities had been using music from these films, thereby infringing Sun Pictures' copyrights. They sought a court injunction to prevent further unauthorized use.
CSK's senior counsel stated that while some song portions had been used in promos for three years without objection, the team would now desist from such usage, pending consent from the copyright owner or a Phonographic Performance Limited License (PPLL). The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 16, awaiting CSK's affidavit.
The five-time IPL champions are preparing for the 2026 season, with their opening match scheduled for March 30 against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Their first home game is on April 3 against Punjab Kings in Chennai.
