Sundaram Tagore Gallery Celebrates 25 Years of Diverse Global Art

Sundaram Tagore Gallery in New York is marking its 25th anniversary with a wide-ranging exhibition that celebrates the gallery's commitment to cross-cultural artistic exploration. The show features paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations by over 30 artists who have been associated with the gallery since its founding in 2000, as well as more recent partners.

The exhibition highlights the gallery's focus on diasporic artists and underrepresented cultures outside Europe and the United States. These artists, including renowned figures like Sohan Qadri, Natvar Bhavsar, and Nathan Slate Joseph, have synthesized Western visual languages with forms, techniques, and philosophies from Asia, the Subcontinent, and the Middle East. By incorporating authentic elements from their own cultures, they have added richness and complexity to the artistic canon.

The ensemble of materials and mediums on display creates a visually stunning and emotionally resonant celebration. Highlights include the powerful black-and-white photography of Sebastião Salgado, the meditative dyed works on paper by Sohan Qadri, and the thought-provoking sculptural installations by Anila Quayum Agha and Tayeba Begum Lipi. The exhibition serves as a testament to the gallery's commitment to promoting diverse global perspectives and expanding the boundaries of contemporary art.
