3 May
Summary
- Director Sundar C stepped down from a high-profile film project.
- He cited overwhelming pressure and creative control issues.
- The project was a highly anticipated collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

Director Sundar C has opened up about his decision to exit a much-anticipated film project that was set to feature Tamil cinema legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He cited "too much pressure" as the primary reason for his departure. Sundar C explained that after 16 years of directing films based on his own creative instincts, he felt unable to manage the complexities of a project involving two major stars.
He elaborated that such a film would inevitably involve numerous opinions and expectations, making it difficult to stay true to his artistic vision. Sundar C acknowledged his inability to effectively communicate his ideas during production and his tendency to compromise. He personally informed Rajinikanth of his decision before director Cibi Chakaravarthi took over.
Initially announced in November of last year, the film was tentatively titled 'Thalaivar 173' and aimed for a Pongal 2027 release. Sundar C had previously cited "unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances" for his exit. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are now confirmed to star in a different film, 'KH x RK,' directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, scheduled for a 2026 release.
