Ben Shephard's new ITV adventure series, The Summit, launched tonight, February 10th, at 9 pm, featuring 13 contestants on an extreme challenge. The group is attempting to ascend one of New Zealand's highest mountains, facing an 8,500-foot trek across a rugged landscape. The competition offers a shared prize of £200,000.
Among the diverse lineup is 24-year-old pageant and fitness coach Afton McKeith, daughter of I'm A Celebrity personality Gillian McKeith. The contestants, including a pole fitness instructor, sales manager, construction manager, influencer, and former gladiator, hail from various parts of the UK. Originally scheduled for a 2025 release, the show's debut was pushed to 2026.
Shephard revealed that contestants were initially given a portion of the potential winnings, approximately £14,000 each, to carry with them. He noted that despite initial excitement, the challenges quickly proved difficult. The show's host was only permitted to confirm his involvement once the contestants had departed for New Zealand, to maintain an element of surprise regarding the show's format and host.
