The influential grunge power trio Sugar, fronted by Bob Mould, is set to reunite for their first performances in over three decades. Bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis will join Mould for a tour spanning May to October 2026 across Europe and the US. The band initially formed after Mould, seeking to capitalize on his songwriting after the dissolution of Hüsker Dü, collaborated with Travis and Barbe.
Their 1992 debut album, Copper Blue, was a critical and commercial triumph, lauded for its sculpted pop songs delivered with Mould's signature colossal guitar sound. The success was followed by the EP Beaster in 1993, which explored darker themes. However, the band dissolved in early 1995 amidst the changing grunge landscape and Mould's personal experiences.
After years of pursuing individual projects, the prospect of a reunion gained momentum when drummer Malcolm Travis realized the closing window of opportunity as the band members approached their 70s. The reunited Sugar will commemorate the event with two new tracks, though Mould remains focused on enjoying the experience without confirming future releases.
