Saria Backs New Voices: Pech & Silverfish Films Announced

Sudhanshu Saria, a National Film Award-winning filmmaker, is expanding his role to film production with his banner Four Line Films. Two new projects, 'Pech' and 'Silverfish', are set to go into production this year, following two to two-and-a-half years of development. 'Pech', directed by Kumar Chheda, will explore themes of class and marginalization within the context of Mumbai. 'Silverfish,' directed by Krishna and co-written by Saria himself, is envisioned as a creature feature set in Silicon Valley.

Saria expressed a desire to support new filmmakers facing a perceived scarcity of opportunities in the current industry. He believes that in today's landscape, opportunities often fall into extremes, making it difficult for emerging talent. His goal as a producer is to create a secure and supportive environment, allowing directors to feel safe and protected while maximizing their creative output.

Drawing from his directorial experience, Saria plans to offer valuable perspective and guidance, acting as a meticulous producer when necessary. He acknowledges the challenges of film production amidst economic uncertainties but prefers working within limitations, believing it fosters creativity. His approach involves careful subject selection and budget assessment from the outset to ensure financial viability and market relevance for new filmmakers.

While past films by Saria have featured at festivals, the strategy for 'Pech' and 'Silverfish' will be determined by each film's specific needs. Saria is focused on creating audience-friendly content intended for theatrical release. Although festivals play a role in a film's journey, the ultimate aim is to bring audiences back to cinemas, prioritizing strategies that build anticipation and reach the widest possible audience.

Saria intends to prioritize his producing duties over directing new projects in the immediate future. He acknowledges his past struggles with multitasking and aims to focus intently on supporting the filmmakers of 'Pech' and 'Silverfish' during the crucial pre-production stages. He hopes the production team can manage the filming process independently, allowing him to concentrate on his producer role.
