Succession Star to Tackle Zuckerberg Role in Sorkin's Social Media Saga

In a major casting announcement, Succession star Jeremy Strong has been tapped to play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network. Titled The Social Reckoning, the new movie is set to premiere in October 2026, 17 years after the events of the original.

The sequel centers on a young Facebook engineer named Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, who teams up with Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, on a risky mission to bring attention to Facebook's biggest secrets. Strong, who is currently on the awards circuit for his work in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, will take on the role of an older version of the tech billionaire.

Speaking at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, Strong expressed his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as "one of the great scripts I've ever read." He said the film "speaks to our time" and "touches the third rail of everything happening in our world." The actor, who has previously collaborated with director Aaron Sorkin on The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Molly's Game, said he's approaching the complex Zuckerberg character with "great care and empathy and objectivity."

When asked if he had spoken to Jesse Eisenberg, who was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Zuckerberg in the original film, Strong said, "No, I think that has nothing to do with what I'm going to do." He emphasized that he's focused on bringing his own unique interpretation to the role.
