Summary
- Studio Ghibli films are getting a 4K remaster and Imax release.
- Princess Mononoke became a top vault release in Imax history.
- Gkids and Imax collaborate to bring remastered Ghibli films.

Studio Ghibli's cherished films are returning to North American Imax theaters with breathtaking 4K remasters. The ongoing collaboration between Gkids and Imax extends its scope to feature a slate of newly remastered Ghibli titles.
"Princess Mononoke" initiated this remaster run earlier in 2025, quickly becoming the second-highest-grossing vault release in Imax history. Following this success, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is set to screen in its 4K remaster beginning March 13.
Two specific films, "Whisper of the Heart" (1995) and "The Secret World of Arrietty" (2010), are part of this cinematic event. "Whisper of the Heart" explores a young dreamer's self-discovery, guided by a mysterious cat and an aspiring artist. "The Secret World of Arrietty" adapts "The Borrowers," following a tiny being who forms a bond with a human boy.
The meticulous 4K remastering process is overseen by veteran Atsushi Okui, who has a long history with Studio Ghibli, including work on "Porco Rosso" and Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron."
Gkids, which handles the North American distribution for the Studio Ghibli library, has partnered with Imax since 2021. They have also managed the annual Ghibli Fest theatrical program nationwide since 2017.
