In a unique blend of action and comedy, a Japanese film introduces Fumika, a college student who inadvertently becomes connected to the spirit of a slain assassin named Kudo. After picking up a bullet casing, Fumika finds her suppressed rage linking her to Kudo, who can now inhabit her body at will. This spectral partnership allows Kudo to utilize Fumika as a formidable force, employing karate, martial arts, and gunplay to confront wrongdoers and pursue his own murderer.
The collaboration between star Akari Takaishi and director Kensuke Sonomura, who previously worked on the 'Baby Assassins' franchise, is evident in the film's strong emphasis on elaborate fight choreography. While character development takes a backseat, Takaishi delivers a charismatic performance, adeptly shifting between a shocked student and a deadly operative when Kudo takes control. Masanori Mimoto provides a soulful portrayal of the late assassin, grappling with late-life conscience.
Despite a seemingly male-centric target audience, the narrative champions women's rights by depicting Fumika/Kudo confronting an abusive boyfriend and thwarting criminals involved in drugging women. The film also notably presents Fumika in practical, comfortable attire, eschewing objectifying outfits. This unique approach, blending supernatural elements with empowering action, offers a distinct cinematic experience.
