Strictly's 'Bloodbath': Pros Axed, Show Needs Rest?
12 Mar
Summary
- Five professional dancers have been dropped from the show.
- An ex-pro suggests the show should go on a one-year break.
- Focus should return to ballroom and Latin dancing basics.

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Kristina Rihanoff has stated the popular show needs to be 'rested' following the dismissal of five professional dancers. This significant lineup change, described as a 'bloodbath,' has led Rihanoff, who participated from 2008 to 2015, to suggest a one-year hiatus for the series.
Rihanoff advocates for a return to the show's core elements, emphasizing a focus on ballroom and Latin dancing. She believes the series should strip away excessive props and 3D projections, which she feels detract from the fundamental dance competition. Her perspective stems from her experience where the show prioritized authentic dancing with minimal embellishments.
The departures include long-serving dancer Karen Hauer, alongside Nadiya Bychkova, Michelle Tsiakkas, Luba Mushtuk, and Gorka Márquez. While some pros were dropped, Katya Jones has reportedly secured a new contract. Rihanoff also noted the mental toll of year-long contracts and the inherent 'jeopardy' for dancers on the show.
