An iconic Hohner Cembalet keyboard from the 1950s, once played by Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers, has been brought back to life. The keyboard, discovered abandoned in a skip, was featured on the television program The Repair Shop. Current Stranglers keyboardist Toby Hounsham received the instrument and sought its restoration.
Hounsham expressed immense satisfaction with the outcome, noting that the restoration team brilliantly preserved the keyboard's character. He highlighted the presence of cigarette dents and burns, each telling a part of its story. Inspired by the show, Hounsham had always intended to restore the rare keyboard.
The Stranglers, formed in Guildford in 1974, are known for hits like 'Golden Brown' and 'No More Heroes.' Dave Greenfield passed away in May 2020, making the restoration of his original instrument a poignant tribute. The keyboard's journey will be aired on BBC One.
