Netflix's Turkish series "Not A Stranger" presents a harrowing psychological thriller centered on Funda, a painter whose life is upended by motherhood. Facing exhaustion and distance from her career and husband, Ilker, she hires Nazli as a nanny for their daughter, Mavi.
Initially appearing to be a helpful presence, Nazli gradually reveals an unhealthy obsession, believing herself to be the true mother and lady of the house. Funda's suspicion grows as strange incidents occur and her mental state deteriorates, fueled by Nazli secretly spiking her drinks and gaslighting her.
The series also uncovers a past relationship between Nazli and Ilker, which Emre, Nazli's boyfriend, attempts to expose, but dies in a chase. Nazli succeeds in having Funda admitted to a treatment facility.
Despite appearing to achieve her goals, the final moments hint at Funda's resilience. The ending, with Nazli, Mavi, and Ilker presenting a facade of a family while Funda stands outside with determination, strongly suggests the possibility of a second season focusing on Funda's quest to expose Nazli and reclaim her life.
