Strand Releasing has secured the U.S. distribution rights for Leyla Bouzid's film, "In a Whisper." This acquisition follows the movie's world premiere in competition at the Berlin Film Festival, where it received strong reviews.
"In a Whisper" centers on Lilia, who returns to Tunisia for her uncle's funeral. She reconnects with family unaware of her life in Paris and her relationship with another woman. As Lilia investigates her uncle's death, she also confronts her own hidden truths.
The film is lauded as an emotional family mystery delving into themes of love and acceptance across generations. This is Tunisian writer-director Bouzid's third feature, with her previous works also having premiered at prestigious festivals like Cannes and Venice.
"In a Whisper" features a cast including Hiam Abbass and Eya Bouteraa as a mother-daughter pair, supported by an ensemble cast. Strand Releasing plans a festival run before a theatrical release in late summer or fall of 2026.
