Stella Lefty Song Interpolates Iconic Chicks Hit

Stella Lefty's recent release, "Summer You Were Mine," has been confirmed to interpolate the melody of The Chicks' 1998 Grammy-winning song "There's Your Trouble." Fans initially noted similarities, but the original songwriters, Tia Sillers and Mark Selby, were absent from the debut album's credit list on streaming platforms. This omission was attributed to a platform error and has since been rectified, with both Sillers and Selby now correctly credited.

Lefty's label, Atlantic Records, confirmed that proper clearance for the interpolation was obtained in June from Sony Publishing. Internal documents from late July also indicated that Sillers and Selby were acknowledged. Tia Sillers expressed optimism that the interpolation would introduce a new generation to The Chicks' original work, highlighting the growing trend of interpolation in music.

The use of interpolation, which involves adapting existing melodies or lyrics rather than direct sampling, has become a popular strategy. Artists like Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift have successfully employed this technique.
