Summary
- Two South Indian superstars shared a film role in 1991.
- The ambitious film 'Shanti Kranti' was made in five languages.
- Despite a massive budget, the film was a box office failure.

In 1991, a unique cinematic event occurred when South Indian stars Akkineni Nagarjuna and Rajinikanth both played the same role in different language versions of the film 'Shanti Kranti'. This high-budget action crime drama was simultaneously produced in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, with V. Ravichandran serving as writer, director, and producer.
Ravichandran, who starred in the Kannada version, cast Nagarjuna for Telugu and Rajinikanth for Tamil and Hindi. The film aimed to tell a story about children and an organ transplant mafia, featuring elaborate sets, including a recreated MG Road. Juhi Chawla, Khushbu, and Anant Nag appeared across all versions.
Despite the immense production scale and star power, 'Shanti Kranti' did not succeed commercially. Its box office failure coincided with personal difficulties for Ravichandran, whose father was ill and the family faced financial challenges. The film's grand vision ultimately did not translate into box office triumph.
Years later, Nagarjuna and Rajinikanth eventually shared the screen again in the recent film 'Coolie', with Nagarjuna playing the antagonist opposite Rajinikanth.
