Starboard Entertainment has acquired the pandemic thriller "Wardcliffe," a feature directorial debut from writer-director David Ferino. The film was purchased at this year's Cannes Market.
"Wardcliffe" stars Joel McKinnon Miller and Shane Coffey, with the narrative unfolding almost entirely within a family home during the initial COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020.
The film's synopsis describes decades of tension between a father and son reaching a boiling point over a single day while quarantining together.
Ferino stated that the story's ability to be made on a small scale with significant emotional weight made it suitable for a first feature, capturing the collective anxiety of the pandemic.
The project was independently financed and produced by Roger M. Mayer through Brooklyn Reptyle Productions. Mayer is also attached to produce the upcoming "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence," directed by Ferino.
Jenifer Ellis and Kevin Ragsdale served as executive producers on "Wardcliffe."
