The highly anticipated Star Wars: Maul -- Shadow Lord is set to premiere on Disney+ on Monday, April 6, 2026. This new series picks up one year after the finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, during the height of Imperial rule.
Darth Maul, who defied his supposed demise in The Phantom Menace, is now focused on rebuilding his shattered criminal syndicate. The show's creative team, including Supervising Director Brad Rau and Head Writer Matt Michnovetz, acknowledged the challenge of presenting Maul as a protagonist without erasing his dark nature.
To navigate this, influences from films such as 'Heat' and 'The Dark Knight' were incorporated. The series aims to explore Maul's journey as he ascends to lead Crimson Dawn, a key event hinted at in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Disney+ has already renewed Star Wars: Maul -- Shadow Lord for a second season, promising further exploration of Maul's ruthless pursuit of his illicit goals.
