27 Jan
Summary
- Chris Pine is unaware of Star Trek 4's development status.
- Paramount reportedly moved on from Star Trek 4's original plans.
- A new Star Trek movie is planned as a fresh, unconnected take.

The cinematic future of the Star Trek franchise remains uncertain, with actor Chris Pine expressing ignorance about the status of Star Trek 4. This film, which was intended to continue the Kelvin timeline, has faced numerous development hurdles. Paramount leadership changes and the studio's acquisition by Skydance have further complicated matters.
Reports from November indicate Paramount has "moved on" from the original Star Trek 4 concept, suggesting Pine and his castmates are no longer being kept updated. This development implies the Kelvin timeline may conclude with its existing three films.
Paramount also announced an "origins" Star Trek movie in early 2024, but this project has also stalled. A new film is now being written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, described as a "completely new take" independent of prior Star Trek movies and shows.
While the big screen future is unclear, the Star Trek television series are actively progressing. Starfleet Academy's first season is airing on Paramount+, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 is anticipated for the 2026 television schedule.
