14 Jul
Summary
- Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the renovation approval of Shah Rukh Khan's bungalow.
- Petitioner claimed environmental and statutory approvals were not followed for the renovation.
- The court stated residents can renovate homes if they comply with the law.

The Supreme Court recently dismissed a petition challenging the renovation approval for actor Shah Rukh Khan's Mumbai bungalow, Mannat. A Mumbai resident had alleged that the project bypassed necessary statutory approvals and environmental norms, particularly concerning the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had previously upheld the project's compliance with environmental rules, clearing the path for the renovation. The Supreme Court, in its decision, emphasized that private residences can be renovated as long as the occupants follow the law, irrespective of the owner's celebrity status.
The court questioned the petitioner's motives and declined to refer the matter back to the NGT. This ruling reinforces the right of homeowners to make lawful modifications to their properties, ensuring that due process and legal compliance are the primary considerations.
