- Filmmaker credits 'Autograph' for teaching him to follow his heart

In October 2025, acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji reflects on the 15-year milestone of his directorial debut, the film 'Autograph'. Mukherji fondly recalls how the project came together, with actress Nandana Sen first approaching him about the script after a chance meeting in Bangalore.
The filmmaker shares that 'Autograph', which starred Prosenjit Chatterjee, Nandana Sen, and Indraneil Sengupta, has taught him an important lesson. "Irrespective of whatever the market wants or whatever the condition of the film industry is or whatever your circumstances are, you should always listen to your heart and you should do things on your own terms and eventually everything will come together," he says.
While Mukherji would place 'Autograph' in his top 10 works, he admits it may not make his top 5. The director notes that he might have done something different with the wig worn by Nandana Sen in the film-within-a-film sequence. Nonetheless, Mukherji is grateful for the impact 'Autograph' has had on his career, as he continues to work on diverse projects including biopics and historical dramas.
