Vietnam Media has finalized a deal, selling the North American and South American rights for its upcoming martial arts epic, "Spirit Guardians - The Last Secret Of The First Emperor," to Papaian Studios. The film, directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh, stars Vietnamese-American martial artist Johnny Tri Nguyen, who also served as action director.
Set in 10th century Vietnam, the story centers on seven warriors tasked with a secret mission to protect the resting place of the nation's first emperor. The production features extensive world-building and visceral action sequences, with Johnny Tri Nguyen overseeing a team of over 100 stunt performers.
Filming involved seven months of training for the cast in authentic fight choreography and an 83-day shoot. Hollywood costume designer Bao Tranchi contributed to the film's 10th-century armor and wardrobe. "Spirit Guardians" is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in Vietnam on August 28, 2026.
