Spider-Man's IMAX Fate Uncertain as Brand New Day Misses 2026 Slate
31 Oct
Summary
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day not on IMAX 2026 schedule
- Hulk and Punisher to appear in new Spider-Man movie
- Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal cast in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

As of October 31st, 2025, the future of Spider-Man: Brand New Day's IMAX release remains uncertain. The highly anticipated Marvel movie, set to continue Peter Parker's story after the events of No Way Home, was expected to be a shoo-in for IMAX screenings in 2026. However, according to the company's investor presentation, the film is not currently on the IMAX schedule for the upcoming year.
This is a surprising development, as all previous Spider-Man movies, aside from the first Sam Raimi installment, have had IMAX releases. The large-screen format has typically been a perfect fit for the web-slinger's action-packed sequences and high-flying heroics. But it appears that IMAX's 2026 slate will be dominated by other big-screen spectacles, such as Avatar: Fire and Ash, Super Mario Galaxy, and the live-action Moana.
The one film that seems to be taking priority for IMAX is Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is set to have a four-week run starting July 17th, 2026. Nolan's epic fantasy, filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, will likely be the main focus for the theater company during that period, leaving little room for other major releases.
While it's a disappointment that Spider-Man: Brand New Day may not grace IMAX screens, there is a silver lining. Two of the film's stars, Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal, will still be featured in a big-screen IMAX production – just not as their Marvel counterparts, Peter Parker and Punisher. Instead, they will be part of the cast of The Odyssey, with Holland set to play the role of Odysseus' son, Telemachus.
Despite the potential IMAX absence, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still expected to deliver an exceptional cinematic experience on standard movie screens. Marvel Studios is known for its cutting-edge technology, and the film's action sequences and visual effects are sure to impress. Fans of the web-slinger will have to mark their calendars for July 31st, 2026, when the movie is set to hit theaters.
