Spider-Man Shatters Box Office, Hits $1 Billion

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved a spectacular $1.05 billion at the global box office within its first six days of release. This remarkable feat positions the film as the second-fastest movie in history to reach the billion-dollar mark, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.

The superhero adventure, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Sadie Sink, has also claimed the title for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever, grossing $360 million. This achievement pushed Avengers: Endgame to second place for that specific record. "Brand New Day" also set new benchmarks for Thursday previews and top Friday domestic openings, solidifying its status as Sony Pictures' most successful launch to date.

Producers Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, along with director Destin Daniel Cretton, have seen their $225 million production budget yield immense returns. Beyond the financial success, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman highlighted the audience's overwhelmingly positive response, evidenced by an A CinemaScore and a 98% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Rothman expressed optimism about the current state of theatrical releases, suggesting that cinema is far from dead.

In response to this overwhelming success, Imax has announced plans to share screen time between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. This decision comes ahead of other anticipated releases like Avengers: Doomsday, which is also expected to play on Imax screens later this year.
