Spellcasters Chronicles: Action-Strategy Blend Needs Polish

Quantic Dream's new title, Spellcasters Chronicles, is set to enter a closed beta phase from December 4th to 7th. This competitive 3v3 action-strategy game aims to blend MOBA mechanics with ongoing narrative elements. Early impressions indicate a design that heavily favors strategic planning, with decisions like summoning titans and managing resources often outweighing moment-to-moment combat skills. This focus on strategy, while present in many MOBA titles, leaves room for improvement in the action-oriented aspects.

The game's core action elements, such as spellcaster combat and minion summoning, require tweaking. Projectile travel times and small hitboxes made spellcaster-to-spellcaster combat challenging in early play. Manually summoning minions, while offering some control, also added a layer of chore-like gameplay that could slow down rotations. These elements, along with a vibrant but sometimes disorienting visual style, present areas for refinement.
