Italian Comedy 'Buen Camino' Sparks Spanish Remake Frenzy

Spain's AF Films has secured the Spanish remake rights to the highly successful Italian comedy, "Buen Camino." This acquisition follows the film's phenomenal box office performance in Italy, where it became the nation's all-time highest-grossing movie, earning more than $82 million. The agreement marks the first remake deal announced for the film.

"Buen Camino" stars Checco Zalone as a wealthy father compelled to leave his privileged life behind. He embarks on a spiritual pilgrimage along Spain's Camino de Santiago in search of his missing teenage daughter, Cristal. This unexpected journey forces them to confront hardships and ultimately fosters a deeper connection.

Piperplay, the Italian sales company, is also in advanced discussions to license remake rights for France and Germany, indicating the film's broad international appeal. "Buen Camino" surpassed previous box office records set by Zalone's earlier films, resonating with over 9 million viewers in Italy.

Director Gennaro Nunziante noted the film's significant international potential, stating its story about a father, daughter, and a journey possesses a more universal appeal than his previous works. Indiana partner Daniel Campos Pavoncelli added that the Spanish remake is a logical progression given the Camino de Santiago's Spanish roots and cultural significance.

AF Films expressed enthusiasm for the project, drawn to its humorous yet profound exploration of human relationships and second chances. The company, which operates between Europe and the U.S., is known for developing high-caliber film and television projects through strategic alliances and cross-border financing.
